Event at WUF13: "The Road from Urbicide to Post-Conflict Reconstruction"
Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
An event titled " The Road from Urbicide to Post-Conflict Reconstruction" was held at the Azerbaijan Pavilion as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
Co-organized by the Special Representatives of the President of Azerbaijan in Lachin and Kalbajar districts, the event centered on the reconstruction work and urban planning policies in Garabagh.
The event opened with video presentations highlighting the ongoing restoration and reconstruction work in Lachin and Kalbajar.
Masim Mammadov, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Lachin district, and Bashir Hajiyev, the Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the Kalbajar district, delivered extensive presentations. They detailed the progress of the restoration and reconstruction works, urban planning developments, and the infrastructure building necessary to facilitate the return of residents to their ancestral homelands.
They noted during the presentations that throughout nearly 30 years of occupation in Garabagh, all infrastructure was decimated, and historical and cultural heritage fell victim to severe vandalism and looting. While tens of thousands of people were forced to live as internally displaced persons, this reality has shifted under the decisive leadership of President Ilham Aliyev, and life is now returning to Garabagh.
