French Senators meet Azerbaijani parliamentarians
Baku, February 7 (AZERTAC). The delegation visiting Azerbaijan led by a member of the Senate of France Nathalie Goulet met on February 6 the members of the international relations and inter-parliamentary ties Standing Committee of Milli Majlis (Azerbaijan Parliament).
Speaking about the Azerbaijani-French relations, the chairman of committee Samad Seyidov said that relations between the two countries always were at high level.
The mutual visits, the meetings and negotiations make contribution to expansion of bilateral relations, in particular, inter-parliamentary relations, Seyidov stressed. “We believe that your visit will also impulse development of bilateral cooperation”, Seyidov added.
Then, at the meeting discussions were held about adoption in the Senate of France of the law criminalizing negation of the so-called “genocide of Armenians”.
Mr. Seyidov noted that adoption of this law by the Senate of France has caused serious anxiety in Azerbaijan. We consider that adoption of this law has negatively affected not only the French-Azerbaijani relations, but also on the relations of France with the entire Turkic world. To prevent occurrence of such questions, it is necessary to hold regular meetings and discussions at various levels, in particular at level of parliaments”, he underlined.
The Committee Chairman expressed gratitude to the French Senators who have opposed adoption of the mentioned law.
Member of the Senate of France Nathalie Goulet expressed satisfaction with her second visit to Azerbaijan.
Underlining necessity of development of inter-parliamentary relations, the French Senator expressed confidence that meetings which will pass in the framework of visit will be successful.
The sides had large exchange of views on the questions representing mutual interest.
