Houston University ready to cooperate with SOCAR and BHOS

Delegation led by Dr. Renu Khator, rector and president of University of Houston, visited Azerbaijan State Oil Company (SOCAR), on January 14.
According to press service of the company, the president of SOCAR Rovnag Abdullayev spoke of the significant contributions of Azerbaijani oil workers to the world oil industry, starting of oil production for the first time by industrial methods in Bibi Heybat fields, transportation of oil via railways, tanker and pipelines for the first time in Azerbaijan. The president also noted the innovations of the representatives of the world's oil bourgeoisie, such as Nobel brothers, Rothschild, H.Z. Tagiyev and others in Azerbaijan’s oil fields at the beginning of the XX century.
Oil industry of Azerbaijan was also developed in the Soviet period; oil production in the sea for the first time was started in the legendary "Oil Rocks". Mr. R. Abdullayev also informed about ecological projects carried out by SOCAR to clean up of contaminated soils in Absheron Peninsula as a result of oil extraction during the Soviet period and told the guests about the new campus of BHOS built in cleaned are in Bibi Heybat.
As a response to the statement “Turning oil capital into human capital” by the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan Ilham Aliyev, the large-scale projects carried out by SOCAR for Azerbaijani youth to study at prestigious universities of the world, 197 graduates studying abroad at the expense of the company, have already been working in different structures of SOCAR and other issues were also noted at the meeting. SOCAR's position in the global oil market, investment projects carried out abroad, started large-scale projects such as TAP and TANAP increased the demand for English-speaking professionals in the company. For this suppose by the Order of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan the establishment of BHOS attached to SOCAR was noted at the event. Special attention is given to the teaching of theoretical and practical knowledge there.
Mrs. Renu Khator, said that, the aim of their visit is to explore the possibility of cooperation between the University of Houston with BHOS. She noted that, innovative programs and innovative projects play an important role at Houston University. She added that, their university is ready to cooperate with SOCAR and BHOS.
Following the meeting the members of the delegation spoke of the programs implemented in the management of their faculties, appreciated the possibility of cooperation.
