ITALY KEEN IN DEVELOPMENT OF RELATIONS WITH AZERBAIJAN
Speaking of history of the friendly relations between two countries, the Chairman of Azerbaijan Parliament emphasized the role of the heads of both states in development of these ties. The negotiations carried out during the official visit of President Heydar Aliyev in 1997 and the documents signed by the heads of states have created legal base for expansion of these relations, Mr. Asadov stated. And President Ilham Aliyev’s visit to Italy in 2005, the bilateral relations reached a new phase. In particular, the business-forum held in Italy, opened broad opportunities for economic links. Currently, some 40 Italian companies operate in Azerbaijan and mutual trade turnover makes 1 million dollars, he stressed.
Speaker of Azerbaijan Parliament said the parliaments should make more efforts to widen these links. A parliamentary group of friendship with Italy functions in Milli Majlis. Mr. Asadov expressed hope for further cooperation on parliament level.
Mr. Roberto Castelli said Italy is keen in development of all-round relations with Azerbaijan. The key goal of the visit, as stressed, is to acquire a new phase in bilateral relations. And the documents to be signed during the visit will play significant role in development of business links. There are also opportunities for further parliamentary links, he underlined.
The sides had comprehensive exchange of views around a range of questions of mutual interest.
