KUWAIT TIMES NEWSPAPER PUBLISHES AZERBAIJANI FORMER AMBASSADOR`S ARTICLES
Baku, July 23 (AZERTAC). Kuwait Times newspaper has published, in its July 20 and 21 editions, Azerbaijani former ambassador to Kuwait Shahin Abdullayev`s articles entitled “Kuwait-Azerbaijan ties a ‘role model’” and “Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict: Aggression and occupation”.
The article “Kuwait-Azerbaijan ties a ‘role model’” says “since regaining of its independence, promoting equal and mutually beneficial cooperation, Azerbaijan has been successful to build close cooperation with neighboring Turkey, Iran, Russia, EU countries, United States, China, Japan and other Asian and African countries. “Meanwhile, Azerbaijan, historically being part of the Islamic world and sharing the progressive heritage and spiritual values of the Islamic civilization, has been attaching particular importance to developing closer ties with the Arab-Islamic world,” the article says.
“With this strategic goal in mind, building on the shared Islamic heritage, Azerbaijan established relations with the State of Kuwait”.
The article goes on to say “during the recent years high level visits between Kuwait and Azerbaijan provided an ample opportunity to reaffirm friendships and explore new cooperation avenues.”
“…in our bilateral relations Azerbaijan highly values the unequivocal support rendered by the State of Kuwait to the territorial integrity and sovereignty of Azerbaijan in the face of Armenian occupation and aggression”.
“Occupation and aggression by neighboring country is yet another, but unfortunate resemblance between Kuwait and Azerbaijan. But only difference in that in the experience of Azerbaijan the territorial claims of Armenia has been continuing for almost two hundred years and has mounted to new level by launch of direct military aggression of the Republic of Armenia against Azerbaijan after dissolution of the Soviet Union.
In the article “Armenian-Azerbaijan conflict: Aggression and occupation” Abdullayev says with the disintegration of the Soviet Union at the end of 1991 Armenia launched full-scale war against Azerbaijan. The first armed attack by Armenia occurred in February 1992, when the town of Khojaly in the Republic of Azerbaijan was notoriously overrun and its population was subjected to unprecedented massacre.”
“…the ongoing armed conflict in and around the Nagorno Karabakh region of the Republic of Azerbaijan has resulted in the occupation of 20 percent territory of Azerbaijan by Armenia…”
The author says “though Azerbaijan has suffered from the scourge of war, aggression, occupation and ethnic cleansing policy of neighboring Armenia, it remains adhered to the norms and principles of international law, and exactly on this basis we are eager to continue negotiations carried out within the OSCE Minsk Group framework for peaceful settlement of the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict”.
According to the author “neglecting calls of international community and UN SC resolutions, Armenian side tries to impose the fait-accompli-based solution, which will never be accepted by the Republic of Azerbaijan.”
“The so-called election held on May 23, 2010 in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan was another sign of Armenia`a attempts to undermine the negotiation process and camouflage its annexation policy.”
“The international community is well aware of the situation in the occupied territories of Azerbaijan, as it was indicated just recently in the report on the need for an EU strategy for South Caucasus, adopted by the European Parliament.”
“…resolution of the conflict and establishment of durable peace in the region will bring prosperity and benefits for all countries of the region. Sooner Armenia understands this reality, better for Armenia.”
