Namibia aims to adopt a smart city model by 2027

“In Namibia, local authorities have adopted important decisions on digital transformation, with the goal of transitioning to a smart city model by 2027,” said Sakarias Uunona, Mayor of Windhoek, in his remarks at a session titled “Just Transitions in Practice. Co-Creating Digital Tools for Informality and Crisis,” held as part of the WUF13 in Baku.
He noted that the strategic plan, developed with UN-Habitat and several partner cities, is being implemented with the support of global institutions. “It is currently executed by local councils, while a major challenge remains the lack of skills and competencies, which is being addressed through capacity-building and international expertise,” he emphasized.
