Baku, May 22, AZERTAC
Pushpa Pathak, Senior Fellow at the Centre for Policy Research, dedicated her speech to the importance of small towns in India for agrarian areas during the panel session on “Rural-Urban Linkages of Small Towns Transformation and Sustainability as part of WUF13.
The expert noted that small town centers play a crucial role in the distribution of agricultural products and the development of the processing industry. She added that it is through such cities that rural residents gain access to markets, financial services and employment opportunities outside the agricultural sector. Pathak emphasized that strengthening transport and economic infrastructure between villages and small towns helps reduce regional inequality. She also drew attention to the importance of long-term state support for local economic systems and sustainable spatial planning.
