Record snowfall in northern Swedish city
Baku, February 5, AZERTAC
While heavy snow in February is not unusual in Lulea, in northern Sweden, on Tuesday the city saw an almost 50 year-old snowfall record broken. The snow fall at Lulea airport measured 113 centimeters or 44 inches on Tuesday morning, breaking the previous local record from 1966 by two centimeters. According to the Swedish Meteoritical Office, the snow fell in a relatively short space of time. Snow clearing teams had plenty to do, shoveling snow from roads while the powder continued to fall. But, a Swedish record from 1926 remains. On February 28 that year, snowfall of 327 centimeters, or 128 inches, was measured in Kopparasen north of the Arctic Circle.
