Representatives of diplomatic corps visit Khankendi Cultural Center

On September 11, representatives of the diplomatic corps accredited in Azerbaijan, accompanied by Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, visited the Khankendi Cultural Center following its major renovation.
In his remarks, Elchin Yusubov, Special Representative of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan in the city of Khankendi and the Aghdara and Khojaly districts, emphasized that large-scale reconstruction works are underway in Khankendi, with the first residents already returning to the city, as well as to the village of Karkijahan.
According to him, today, 28,000 people live, work and study in Khankendi.
Elchin Yusubov noted that representatives of the diplomatic corps would be briefed on the ongoing redevelopment and construction efforts in the city.
Subsequently, Hikmet Hajiyev, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan and Head of the Foreign Policy Affairs Department of the Presidential Administration, delivered remarks, stating, “just 25 years ago, there was a dreadful and horrific terrorist act committed in New York City against the United States.”
According to him, Azerbaijan is also a country that suffered from terrorism, particularly in the early 1990s.
“Therefore, as a country that suffered from terrorism and such atrocities in the early 1990s, Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to join the international alliance in the fight against terrorism,” the Presidential Assistant noted.
Touching upon Azerbaijan’s mine action agenda, Hikmet Hajiyev added that the country highly appreciates the contributions of friendly countries and organizations to its ongoing demining efforts in the liberated territories.
In conclusion, the delegates were briefed on the Khankendi Cultural Center.

The Cultural Center building in Khankendi was constructed in the 1960s and 1970s. Decades of use had resulted in extensive wear, structural deformation, and damage.
As part of comprehensive reconstruction work, the center has been equipped with the necessary facilities to host various cultural and public events, as well as cinema and stage activities, creative workshops, training sessions, rehearsals, administrative operations, and tourism-related services.
