Russian magazine deprives Azerbaijan of Nizami
Baku, August 14 (AZERTAC). In the 7 July issue of the Russian magazine "Around the World" Great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi has been named as Persian author.
The Azerbaijani community of the Crimea has sent a letter of protest to the editor of this publication.
The letter says, “The author of the article, apparently, is not familiar with the works of well-known specialists in Turkic philology Krymskoy, Bertels and American scientists who recognize Nizami as the Azerbaijani poet. In an article in Great Soviet Encyclopedia under the editorship of the Krymskoy Nizami was also called an Azerbaijani poet and thinker.
The nationality of Nizami is disputed simply because he wrote in Persian.
In Baku, Ganja and other cities of Azerbaijan, there are numerous monuments of Nizami, his name is given to streets and areas: a subway station in Baku, Nizami Street is one of the main streets in the capital of Azerbaijan, the Lyceum of Technical and Natural Sciences in Sumgait is also named after Nizami. The Institute of Literature under the Azerbaijan’s Academy of Sciences, the Museum of Azerbaijan Literature and other institutions are named after Nizami.
In 2012 the inauguration of the monument to the great Azerbaijani poet Nizami Ganjavi was held in Rome. The ceremony was attended by the First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva.
