SOCAR to build a refinery in Kyrgyzstan

Bishkek, January 19 (AZERTAC). President of Kyrgyzstan Almazbek Atambayev received today here the visiting delegation of Azerbaijan led by Rovnag Abdullayev, president of the Azerbaijan State Oil Company SOCAR.

The agreement on construction of the plant was reached on 18 January during a meeting of Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev with SOCAR President Rovnag Abdullayev in Bishkek, according to the press service of the Kyrgyz president.

The refinery will be capable of refining 2bn tons of crude per year and is expected to come into operation by the end of 2013.

The meeting also discussed the supply of crude oil and oil products from Azerbaijan and the prospects for exploration and production of oil in Kyrgyzstan.

The head of state instructed the Kyrgyz Energy and Industry Ministry to offer full support to the construction of the refinery.

The SOCAR chief said that a group of specialists would soon arrive in Kyrgyzstan to draw up the feasibility study for the refinery.

The issue is under control of Azerbaijani president, Abdulayyev stated.
