Southwestern Japan urged to beware of powerful typhoon

Baku, September 2, AZERTAC

Japan's weather agency on Wednesday warned residents to be vigilant as a very powerful typhoon may cause storms, mudslides and flooding in Okinawa and the southwestern main island of Kyushu, according to Kyodo news agency.

By Wednesday afternoon, Typhoon Maysak is projected to be close to northern Kyushu, the Japan Meteorological Agency said, also warning of possible high waves and high tides.

Bullet train services between Hiroshima and Hakata stations on the Sanyo Shinkansen Line will be suspended from the first departure of the day until around 8 a.m. Thursday as a precaution, West Japan Railway Co. said. The section connects the west and southwestern parts of the country.

Eight people in Okinawa Prefecture have so far been slightly injured as the typhoon brought about very strong gusts of wind. Thunderstorms hit the southern part of Kyushu as well.
