Baku, September 3 (AZERTAC). Chairman of the U.S. Joint Chiefs of Staff Mike Mullen will visit Turkey on Friday as the two countries are negotiating on transferring U.S. forces in Iraq via Turkish territory, Xinhua informed.

Mike Mullen will make a courtesy visit on Friday to Turkish Chief of General Staff Isik Kosaner who assumed office on Monday, Deborah Guido, spokeswoman for the U.S. Embassy in Ankara, was quoted by Turkey`s Daily News as saying. Mullen`s visit comes after the United States announced the end of combat operations in Iraq.

The Turkish government recently said that negotiations on transferring U.S. troops, arms and equipment out of neighboring Iraq via Turkish territory were continuing with the United States.

Some U.S. military equipment has already been transferred through Turkey since 2009 under an agreement that allows the U.S. forces to use the Incirlik Air Base in Turkey`s southern Adana province as a "logistics hub."
