U.S., NATO experts hold meeting with Azeri colleagues
Baku, November 7 (AZERTAC). The U.S. and NATO military experts on Tuesday held a meeting with Azerbaijani colleagues, the country’s Ministry of Defense said in a statement. The meeting was held at the Baku-based Military Academy of the Azerbaijan’s Armed Forces in accordance with Azerbaijan-NATO cooperation plan in the field of military education and training.
The meeting focused on several issues including the strategy and defense planning, information warfare, command and control procedures of NATO, national security, strategic operations, the use of information technology, geopolitics and international relations.
Under the 2012 Individual Partnership Action Plan between the NATO and Azerbaijan’s Defence Ministry, the mobile group Joint Force Command in Brunssum is conducting training on NATO's operational planning process in education and training centre of armed forces.
NATO and Azerbaijan actively cooperate on democratic, institutional and defence reforms, and have developed practical cooperation in many other areas. Azerbaijan’s Individual Partnership Action Plan (IPAP) lays out the programme of cooperation between Azerbaijan and NATO.
Azerbaijan is seeking to achieve Euro-Atlantic standards and to draw closer to Euro-Atlantic institutions. Consequently, support to security sector reform and democratic institution building are key elements of NATO-Azerbaijan cooperation.
Another important area of cooperation is the country’s support for NATO-led operations. Azerbaijan currently contributes troops to the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan. In the past, it also actively supported the operation in Kosovo.
