WFP DELIVERS US SHIPMENT TO AZERBAIJAN

3,000 tons of wheat flour and 200 tons of vegetable oil donated to the United Nations World Food Program (WFP) by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) arrived in Azerbaijan on 3 April.

The donation will be distributed among the refugees and IDPs settled in 11 regions of the Republic.

“The donation of wheat flour and oil will provide much needed food to WFP’s beneficiaries in Azerbaijan, particularly at a time when WFP is due to start a new two-year project, and hopefully will encourage other donors to contribute supporting the IDPs,” says Rahman Chowdhury, Country Director for WFP’s operations in Azerbaijan. Similar contributions are needed to support the IDPs till mid 2008, Mr. Chowdhury added.
