WUF13 Panel: When Housing Brings Cities Together Local Cooperation in Practice
Baku, May 21, AZERTAC
On May 21, a panel session titled “When Housing Brings Cities Together Local Cooperation in Practice” was held within the framework of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The event, moderated by Oday Aljabari, expert at the Belgian Development Agency, brought together international experts in the field, representatives of state institutions, and municipal associations.
Speakers at the session noted that challenges related to housing provision go beyond the issue of supply (shortage of housing units). They also include governance, financing, sustainability, and overall quality of urban life. Discussions focused on how decentralized cooperation – particularly through municipal associations – can play a practical infrastructural role in filling existing gaps.
At the same time, the preservation and effectiveness of existing cooperation models in housing provision, as well as the need for new partnerships, were considered. It was noted that integrated urban planning approaches, including investments in green public spaces and inclusive neighborhoods, can make a significant contribution to building more resilient and livable cities.
