AT LEAST 13 KILLED IN GUATEMALA, SALVADOR AS HURRICANE SEASON BEGINS

Baku, May 31 (AZERTAC). At least 13 people were killed and 11 went missing as Agatha, the first named storm of this year`s hurricane season in Eastern Pacific, lashed the coast of Guatemala and Salvador, local media reported on Sunday.

Guatemala`s Siglo XXI newspaper said 12 people were killed and 11 went missing. At least 500 houses were damaged, and the state of emergency was declared in the country.

The thirteenth fatality was reported in Salvador.

Agatha formed off the coast of Guatemala on Saturday, and currently carries maximum sustained winds of 80 kmph (50 mph).

On Thursday, the U.S. National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) said this year`s hurricane season will be "below normal."
