Azerbaijan, International Electrotechnical Commission discuss expanding cooperation

Elnur Baghirov, Chairman of the State Agency for Antimonopoly and Consumer Market Control, met with Philippe Metzger, Secretary-General and CEO of the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC).
Baghirov briefed Metzger on measures to develop Azerbaijan's national standardization system and key strategic objectives ahead. He highlighted the importance of expanding electrotechnical standardization under the country's associate membership in the IEC and accelerating the adoption of international standards for electrical, electronic, and related technologies.
Philippe Metzger shared his views on strengthening cooperation with Azerbaijan and establishing new partnerships in electrical engineering, energy, digital technologies, artificial intelligence, and other innovative areas.
The meeting continued with discussions focused on developing quality infrastructure, implementing IEC standards, studying best practices, enhancing participation in relevant technical committees on standardization, and strengthening Azerbaijan’s role in international standardization activities.
The IEC is a leading international body overseeing conformity assessment systems for electrotechnology, bringing together over 30,000 experts across nearly 170 countries. The National Electrotechnical Committee was established in 2025 under the Azerbaijan Standardization Institute, and Azerbaijan's associate membership in the IEC officially took effect on January 1, 2026.
