Azerbaijan, South African Republic sign MoU on Regular Diplomatic Consultations
Baku, February 21 (AZERTAC). The Government of Azerbaijan and the Government of the South African Republic have signed a Memorandum of Understanding on Regular Diplomatic Consultations.
Prior to the signing ceremony, Azerbaijan`s Minister of Foreign Affairs Elmar Mammadyarov met Minister of International Relations and Cooperation Maite Nkoana-Mashabane as part of his first official visit to the South African Republic.
They discussed how to develop cooperation between the two countries in the fields of politics, economy, culture and energy, as well as international and regional issues.
Mammadyarov hailed the Azerbaijan-South Africa cooperation within the UN Security Council during the two countries` non-permanent membership at the organization.
The FM briefed Nkoana-Mashabane on the history and consequences of the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
He also highlighted UN Security Council`s four resolutions demanding an unconditional and immediate withdrawal of the Armenian armed forces from Azerbaijan`s occupied lands, adding official Yerevan still refuses to honor the resolutions, and continues occupation of Azerbaijan`s lands.
Mammadyarov provided an insight into Azerbaijan`s socio-economic development, as well as its achievements.
The Foreign Minister said Azerbaijan was ready to exchange experience with the South African Republic in a variety of fields, and invited Maite Nkoana-Mashabane to visit Azerbaijan.
Nkoana-Mashabane said Mammadyarov`s visit to South Africa would contribute to development of cooperation between the two countries.
