Azerbaijan to face Lithuania and Vietnam in R6 of FIDE Chess Olympiad

The Azerbaijan men’s and women’s chess teams will be in action on Day 6 of the 45th FIDE Chess Olympiad 2024, taking place in Budapest, Hungary.
The men’s squad comprised of Shahriyar Mammadyarov, Rauf Mammadov, Nijat Abasov, Aydin Suleymanli and Mahammad Muradli will take on rivals from Lithuania, while the women’s team, comprising of Gunay Mammadzade, Govhar Beydullayeva, Khanim Balajayeva, Ulviyya Fataliyeva and Gulnar Mammadova will face the team from Vietnam.
After R5, Azerbaijan emerged victorious over Jordan, Finland, Moldova and Montenegro, and lost to India in the Open section, while the women’s team triumphed over Nicaragua, Slovenia and Australia, and signed draws with Argentina and Ukraine.
The Swiss system tournament, which will run until September 23, features 11 rounds.
