Azerbaijan to host 5th Plenary Session of TurkPA
Baku, June 13 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan will host the 5th Plenary Session of the Parliamentary Assembly of Turkic-speaking states (TurkPA), the organization has decided at its gathering in Ankara.
Participants of the Assembly`s 4th Plenary Session, held in the Turkish capital to mark the 5th anniversary of the organization, reached agreement to hold the next session in Azerbaijan in June, 2014.
Azerbaijan`s delegation at the event was led by Parliament Speaker Ogtay Asadov.
In his opening remarks, speaker of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey Cemil Çiçek said TurkPA differed from other organizations for its structure “as the assembly consists of deputies from fraternal countries”.
Çiçek touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying Armenia`s aggression against Azerbaijan worried all members of the organization. “Turkic speaking countries must support Azerbaijan on this issue.”
Speaking to the session, chairman of Azerbaijan`s Parliament Ogtay Asadov hailed TurkPA from the standpoint of peoples` integration as well as development of political relationship and inter-parliamentary cooperation.
Asadov pointed out that his country attaches great importance to cooperation with TurkPA, and parliamentary diplomacy in general.
Chairman of Kazakhstan Parliament Nurlan Nigmatulin and speaker of Kyrgyz Parliament Aslibay Zhenbayov praised Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev`s efforts to ensure financing of construction of premises for TurkPA`s International Secretariat in Baku.
Attending the Plenary Session as observers, heads of the Turkish Council, TURKSOY, World Turkish Youth League and other international organizations spoke of cooperative relations with TurkPA.
Secretary General of TurkPA Ramil Hasanov delivered a report on the activities of the assembly`s international secretariat in 2012.
The participants heard a number of reports and approved recommendations of the Commission on International Relations, Commission on Economic, Trade and Financial Affairs, Commission on Social, Cultural and Humanitarian Affairs, Commission on Legal Affairs.
The Plenary Session also saw the election of members of the Assembly`s International Secretariat, and approval of a draft budget for 2014.
The session culminated with the adoption of the Ankara Declaration.
The Parliament speakers met Turkish President Abdullah Gul and Prime Minister Rajab Tayyib Erdogan.
Prior to the session Azerbaijan`s delegation put a wreath at a monument to national leader Heydar Aliyev in Ankara.
