Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister meets EU Special Representative for South Caucasus
Baku, July 27 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijani Deputy Prime Minister, chairman of the State Committee for Deals of Refugees and IDPs Ali Hasanov has met a delegation led by EU Special Representative for the South Caucasus Philippe Lefort.
They discussed prospects for the bilateral cooperation, as well as the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
The Deputy Premier provided an insight into the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict`s history.
Mr. Hasanov highlighted what the Azerbaijani government had been doing to solve social problems of refugees and IDPs.
“A total of $5.4 billion had been spent for the solution of the social problems of refugees and internally displaced persons so far, which included construction of 78 state-of-the-art residential areas for nearly 150,000 refugees and IDPs.”
He said the government drew up a program of Great Return of IDPs to Karabakh.
Mr. Hasanov also highlighted the “Azerbaijan 2020: Vision for the Future” Development Concept.
“Azerbaijan 2020: Vision for the Future” Development Concept adopted on the initiative of President in 2012 and UN Sustainable Development Goals shows that the Azerbaijani state is developing taking into account global challenges and tendencies. The Development Concept is not restricted to the economic aspects of development, it also covers establishment of efficient social defense system, institutional capacity building, development of the civil society, protection of the cultural heritage, protection of environment.”
Mr. Lefort said the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict was a source of danger not only to Azerbaijan, but also for the whole region.
He expressed the European Union`s readiness to assist in finding a solution to the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
