Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry`s Spokesman delivers report at Cairo University
Cairo, May 17 (AZERTAC). Spokesman of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan Elman Abdullayev has delivered a report at Cairo University`s Department of Economic and Political Sciences on the theme of “Azerbaijan`s foreign policy and the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict”.
Speaking on Azerbaijan`s historic development, its traditions of statehood and the current regional role, Abdullayev noted that as a result of the Tsarist Russia`s expansion to the East which resulted in the occupation of the South Caucasus region, Armenians have been resettled at historical Azerbaijani lands through artificial policies. He pointed out that the current conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan takes its root from this policy and went on to further elaborate on Armenian territorial claims against Azerbaijan during the twentieth century as well as the current state of the conflict.
The Ministry`s Spokesman touched on the Armenian aggression and terror, ethnic cleansing committed by Armenia and the Khojaly genocide and informed about Azerbaijan`s stance on the solution of the conflict as well as its contribution to the prosperity and progress in the region and beyond. He underlined Azerbaijan`s special role in establishing and developing successful trilateral energy and transport cooperation between Azerbaijan, Georgia and Turkey and noted that Armenia`s aggressive policy led to its isolation from the regional development and it, therefore faces demographic and economic hardships.
Abdullayev emphasized that the political stability, economic progress and social prosperity allows Azerbaijan to pursue independent, transparent and clear foreign policy and this policy moves the country from the regional dimension towards the global one. He also highlighted Azerbaijan`s role as a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council, particularly its contribution to finding solutions to global challenges and remarked that the number and geography of the states that are keen to establish cooperation with Azerbaijan is expanding day by day and those states view Azerbaijan as a reliable partner.
The Azerbaijani Studies Section was established at the Asian Studies Centre of the Cairo University`s Department of Economic and Political Sciences and Azerbaijani Studies Section launched Azerbaijani Studies Program for the Egyptian students during 13-19 May.
