Azerbaijani parliament speaker meets Slovakian deputy Prime Minister
Baku, April 12 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan`s parliament, Milli Majlis, Ogtay Asadov has met Slovakia`s deputy Prime Minister, foreign and European affairs minister Miroslav Lajčák.
Asadov recalled Lajčák`s visit to Azerbaijan in 2010, describing it as “fruitful”. The speaker noted a Slovakia-Azerbaijan business forum, held in Baku in 2010 was successful. “As a result of this forum 5 Slovakian companies have invested in Azerbaijan.”
Asadov pointed out that European integration was one of priorities of the country`s foreign policy.
According to him, development of political, economic and cultural relations with Slovakia meets official Baku`s interests. He added the fact that an Azerbaijan-Slovakia friendship group functions in Milli Majlis would contribute to expansion of interparliamentary ties.
The speaker said Azerbaijan was the most developing economy in the South Caucasus region and the country plays significant role in ensuring Europe`s energy security. He added without Azerbaijan`s participation no projects in the region could be realized.
Asadov also touched upon the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, saying it hinders economic development of the region.
Lajčák said prospects for economic cooperation were the main focus of attention at their meetings in Baku.
“As a member of NATO and European Union Slovakia supports Azerbaijan`s policy of integration.”
The deputy Prime Minister said separatism was a danger not only to Europe, but the entire world. He added Slovakia backs Azerbaijan`s territorial integrity.
