Azerbaijani scientist corrects mistake of Russian journal
Baku, February 4 (AZERTAC). The Russian scientific journal “Bulletin of Archeology and Ethnography” has corrected a mistake related to the territorial integrity of Azerbaijan on its website thanks to the efforts of an Azerbaijani scientist.
The journal published an article “Methods of handling with dead bodies in the monuments of Shirakan and Lori Berd (Armenia) according to the paleontology data” by Armenian scientists in December last year. The map that came with the article contravened international standards and UN decisions since it indicated Nagorno-Karabakh region of Azerbaijan as a separate state.
In an interview with AZERTAC`s correspondent, representative of the Institute of Archeology and Ethnography of the National Academy of Sciences of Azerbaijan Dmitry Kirichenko said that he had written a letter to the journal saying Nagorno-Karabakh is an integral part of Azerbaijan occupied by Armenian aggressors. The scientist drew the attention to the UN Security council resolutions on the conflict. According to him, it is incorrect to separate Nagorno-Karabakh from Azerbaijan in such a reputable Russian scientific journal because it can give rise to misunderstanding. He asked the journals`s administration to remove the map which is not in compliance with international standards and violates internationally accepted territorial integrity of states.
The editorial office of the journal removed the article from the website leaving a short resume and later put it back without the controversial map.
