“AZERIGAZ” TO COMMENCE ON INSTALLATION OF GAS METERS

The German company Elster has completed the supply to Azerbaijan of household gas meters purchased for “Azerigaz” CJSC within the framework of the project for the Rehabilitation of the gas system of Azerbaijan. Speaking to journalists, the president of the company Alikhan Melikov said that in all 55 thousand gas meters of three types were received and very soon, installation work will begin. The meters have been distributed among the districts of Azerbaijan equally and they are being inspected and tested.

Mr. Melikov said that the meters would cater for about 10% of the clients and installation will be done by the respective divisions of “Azerigaz” and on the account of the company.

This project is being financed with funds from the World Bank, which made available a credit facility for USD20.2 million. The purchase of these meters was done with funds totaling USD6.5 million economized from this credit.

Currently about 40-42 thousand gas meters have been installed in Baku, which forms 10% of the demand since the city has 450 thousand clients.
