Bulgarian and US Armies to hold a Joint Military Exercise
Sofia, January 8, AZERTAC
A joint military exercise by the Bulgarian and the US armies, dubbed Platinum Lion 2015, with the participation of the Serbian and Romanian forces, is to take place in Bulgaria by the end of this month, the country’s Ministry of Defense said.
The drill will be held at the Novo Selo training area, near Sliven, southeastern Bulgaria, BTA news outlet reported.
The total of 250 US marines, 140 Bulgarian soldiers, 40 members of the Serbian ground troops and 25 members of the Romanian army are to take part in the exercise.
This will be the first such drill held in winter conditions as part of the training program of the rotation forces at the Black Sea.
The aim of the Platinum Lion is to improve the skills of the soldiers when accomplishing missions in multi-lateral surrounding, typical for the contemporary military conflicts, as well as enhancing the forces’ interoperability.
