DEPUTY FOREIGN MINISTER HOLDS BRIEFING
Briefing on April 6 on his recent visit to the United State and Canada, Deputy Foreign Minister of Azerbaijan Araz Azimov outlines his negotiation with the NATO leadership. He said the current cooperation activities between Azerbaijan and NATO are carried out in accordance with the Individual Partnership Plan, and that the representatives of the alliance had recently visited Baku to asses how it is being implemented, adding that a summary report has been prepared as a result of the meetings held. The Deputy Foreign Minister noted the document had been considered and accepted by the NATO Council with participation of the Azerbaijan’s delegation consisting of employees of the ministries of foreign affairs, national security and other organizations. The issue of bringing the Azerbaijani army to compliance with NATO standards was also in the focus of the talks, he said noting it has a positive impact on the army’s fighting efficiency.
Mr. Azimov said that along with political and military issues, and those related to energy and maritime security were also in the focus of the talks. He underlined that U.S. experts expressed their readiness to provide necessary assistance to Azerbaijan in this area. “We also agreed on continuation of the U.S. assistance in demining of Azerbaijani territories,” he said.
The Deputy Foreign Minister responded to numerous questions from media representatives.
