FRENCH SENATOR VOICES SOLIDARITY WITH AZERI REFUGEES AND IDPs
Paris, June 13 (AZERTAC). A French senator has expressed readiness to provide “every assistance” to Azerbaijan in ensuring their return to homelands.
Nathalie Goulet spoke to journalists in Paris to comment on results of her recent trip to Azerbaijan.
Last week`s visit saw Goulet, a member of a friendship group with Azerbaijan at the French parliament, hold talks on the Armenia-Azerbaijan Nagorno-Karabakh conflict and meet refugees and IDPs in the capital and other cities.
The French senator expressed regret over the fact mediation efforts of the OSCE Minsk Group had not yet given any results.
Goulet also commented on a recent visit by several French MPs to Azerbaijan`s Armenia-occupied Nagorno-Karabakh region.
“In accordance with France`s law parliamentarians are free in their actions and are not dependent on the government. However, they bear a serious responsibility as they visited the occupied regions, which have not been recognized by France and international organizations. This can damage France`s image in the region as a co-chair of the Minsk group.”
The senator said she would demand an explanation from the French foreign ministry on the issue.
