GUAM Council of National Coordinators holds regular meeting
Kyiv, March 14 (AZERTAC). On 11-12 March, GUAM Council of National Coordinators (CNC) held its 30th meeting in Kyiv, the capital of Ukraine. The meeting was attended by GUAM Secretary General Valeri Chechelashvili.
Azerbaijan was represented by Head of Analysis and Strategic Research Department of Azerbaijani Foreign Ministry Elman Agayev.
Participants of the meeting confirmed the unconditional support of the GUAM countries for sovereignty and territorial integrity of Ukraine within its internationally recognized borders. CNC also confirmed that all conflicts in the GUAM area should be solved on the principles set out in the Joint Declaration of the Heads of States of GUAM on conflict resolution adopted on 23 May 2006.
It was confirmed that the GUAM member states will continue to insist on the need to respect the sovereignty, territorial integrity and internationally recognized borders of states as the fundamental principles of maintaining international peace and security as well as on the fact that the referendum on the status of the Autonomous Republic of Crimea may be carried out exclusively accordance with the Constitution of Ukraine.
CNC noted that GUAM member states will continue consultations on the situation in Ukraine and the possible implications for peace and security in the region.
CNC discussed several issues of political cooperation within GUAM, in particular, the draft Resolution of UN on “Protracted conflicts in the GUAM area and their implications for international peace, security and development”.
The parties discussed the possibility of holding meetings of the GUAM PA Committees and recommended to conduct their meetings in accordance with the decisions adopted at the joint meeting of the GUAM PA committees on December 2, 2013 in Tbilisi.
CNC also discussed a range of issues of sectoral cooperation within GUAM, in particular in the fight against international crime, in the use of the Virtual Center and Intergovernmental Information Management System of GUAM and the preparation of its expansion, the organization of an integrated system of cryptographic protection of information, cooperation in the field of economy, trade, transport, fight against terrorism and organized crime.
Participants also discussed issues of GUAM cooperation with other states and international organizations as the US, Japan, UNODC, OSCE, EU.
