ICAPP Special Conference concludes with Xi`an Initiative
Xi`an, June 3 (AZERTAC). The International Conference of Asian Political Parties (ICAPP) Special Conference concluded with the creation of the Xi`an Initiative, in Northwest China`s Shaanxi province, on Friday.
Azerbaijani MPs Mubariz Gurbanli and Mirkazim Kazimov were present at the event.
The event began with demonstration of a video appeal of UN Secretary General Pan Kimun.
Participants of the conference shared their knowledge and insights on green economy and called for more international cooperation in green development.
Asia must achieve a balance between economy and nature as it has paid a high cost for its rapid growth, including eco-degradation and climate change. The region must shift its fossil-fuel-based economy to a green economy to reach its goal.
Yet, Asia still lacks sufficient laws and policies to support green development.
"Economic stimulus programs in Asian countries should include financial support for green technology and green industries, as Asia has no other choice but to develop an environmental friendly way for its sustainable growth,” said Jose de Venecia, the founding chairman and co-chairman of the Standing Committee of the ICAPP.
The ICAPP, though not a policymaker, can help Asian counties to form international partnerships and coordinate international efforts in green development, according to Chung Eui-yong, the co-chairman of the Standing Committee and secretary general of the ICAPP.
Azerbaijani MP Mubariz Gurbanli spoke about the work done in environmental protection within “Year of Ecology” in Azerbaijan.
The Xi`an Initiative calls for greater attention to green development and enhanced efforts for ecological progress; transparency and inclusiveness in pursuing common development; closer international cooperation and a joint effort to build a "beautiful Asia"; and an active role for political parties and innovation in development modes.
The two-day ICAPP Special Conference gathered more than 150 leaders, entrepreneurs and researchers from 57 parties of the 33 participating Asian countries.
