International forum held in Baku
Baku, June 9 (AZERTAC). An international forum on Azerbaijan has been held in Baku with participation of students of the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
The aim of the forum was to address problems caused by Armenian aggression Azerbaijan and other issues.
Speaking at the panel session on the Nagorno-Karabakh dispute, Deputy Foreign Minister Araz Azimov noted that Armenian military aggression resulted in occupation of 20 percent of Azerbaijani lands, displacement of over a million people, and destruction of historical monuments.
According to the Deputy FM, the conflict negatively affects the Armenia`s economy. Many people, for the most part, youth are leaving the country. While population of Armenia dropped from 3 to 1.2 million as a result of the conflict. Azimov noted that the Azerbaijani army was rapidly developing. The non-oil sector registered a serious progress.
In the panel session Future Azerbaijan-Strategic Vision, Education Minister Mikayil Jabbarov told of the education projects, importance of study abroad program. He underlined that education sector was the priority area for the Azerbaijani government. Jabbarov pointed out that education projects help develop the economy and human resources in the country.
Speaking at the meeting Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism Nazim Samadov provided information about Azerbaijan`s rich culture and tourism sector. He noted that all regions of Azerbaijan are experiencing boom in tourism.
On the US-Azerbaijan relations, the Deputy Minister said that expansion of cultural ties was the priority of future cooperation between the countries.
Addressing the forum, Executive Director of the State Oil Fund of Azerbaijan Shahmar Movsumov gave an insight into the activities of the organization. He noted that the oil strategy was developed to channel oil revenues in the right direction.
