Baku, April 23 (AZERTAC). Jordan-based newspaper “81-Diyar” has published an article on the occasion of the 90th jubilee of national leader of Azerbaijani people Heydar Aliyev.
In the article, the author, Yelena Nidogina, writes about national leader`s glorious life as well as his crucial role and undeniable efforts in building an independent state in Azerbaijan.
The article highlights Heydar Aliyev`s activities, his services as a leader of Azerbaijan in the Soviet Union and during the independence years.
“Being elected at the Plenum of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan in July 1969 as the First Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Azerbaijan, Heydar Aliyev became the head of the republic. In December 1982, Heydar Aliyev was elected a member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Soviet Union`s Communist Party, and was appointed the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, becoming one of the leaders of the USSR. For twenty years, Heydar Aliyev had been a deputy to the Supreme Soviet of the USSR, and for five years he was Deputy Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR.”
The article says Heydar Aliyev as the only Muslim, who became one of the USSR political leaders, is considered a close friend of the Islamic world.
The author also writes about Heydar Aliyev`s returning to power by the insistent demand of the people for the second time, which marked a turning point in the country`s life as strengthened its statehood, independence, prevented a civil war and restored socio-political and economic stability.
Ms. Nidogina says: “In May-June 1993, when a government crisis left the country on the verge of a civil war and loss of independence, the people of Azerbaijan demanded to bring Heydar Aliyev to power. The then leaders of Azerbaijan were obliged to officially invite Heydar Aliyev to Baku. On 15 June 1993, Heydar Aliyev was elected Chairman of the Supreme Soviet of Azerbaijan, and on 24 July, decided by the Milli Majlis, he proceeded to fulfilling the authorities of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On October 3, 1993, as a result of nationwide voting, Heydar Aliyev was elected President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. On October 11, 1998, he was re-elected President of the Republic of Azerbaijan after securing a landslide victory in the elections, which marked high turnout and saw him gain 76.1 percent of the votes.”
The article underlines that Azerbaijan`s achievements in foreign policy, as well as its integration into the West and the Islamic world are directly connected with national leader`s name.
