The people of Lankaran have been very shocked to hear the news on the death of outstanding statesman, wise politician and nationwide leader Heydar Aliyev. They used to come to the center of Lankaran during holidays and sad events to share both their sorrow and joy. It is the fourth day the square is crowded. Having heard of the news inhabitants come to the center, bow their heads, lay flowers and light candles before Heydar Aliyev’s portrait framed in black ribbon. From there people go to the Museum of Heydar Aliyev to familiarize themselves with the lifetime of this great personality.

This loss shocked all Lankaran people.

Speaking of the great leader, father of the National Hero of Azerbaijan Askar Aliyev Alakbar could not hold his tears:

- This is a great loss shocked all in Lankaran. This is not only our loss but also all Turkic people. Heydar Aliyev is a unique personality granted by history. I suffered shocks twice in my life. The first shock struck me when my son became shahid and the second shock I feel now cause elder of the whole Caucasus, Heydar Aliyev passed away. May Allah rest his soul in peace.

Prominent intellectual, chief of chair of the Lankaran State University Mirgashim Talishli also expressed his feelings:

The holy book Koran says: We send rulers to you. Yes, Heydar Aliyev was a leader and savior send down by Allah to Azerbaijani people. Exactly he could deliver our people from misfortunes fell upon them at the end of 20 century. Heydar Aliyev has exceptional services to Azerbaijan Republic, which cannot be counted. Our people showing deep love, respect to wise leader connects their future with his name. Heydar Aliyev is a constantly shining star who will light our way that leads our people to happiness, stability and peace.
