MILLI MAJLIS SPEAKER MEETS VICE-CHAIRMAN OF EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT`s COMMITTEE
Baku, June 9 (AZERTAC). Speaker of Azerbaijan`s Milli Majlis Ogtay Asadov has met today European Parliament`s vice-chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs Fiorello Provera.
Asadov said integration into Europe was one of Azerbaijan`s foreign policy priorities. He noted Azerbaijan had been cooperating closely with international organizations, including the EU and European Parliament.
The Speaker pointed out the bilateral cooperation was continuing within the Eastern Partnership program. But Armenia`s aggressive policy against Azerbaijan, he added, places obstacles in the way of multilateral cooperation.
Asadov also thanked Provera for his participation in drawing up the text of a document on the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict adopted recently by the European Parliament.
The Speaker stressed the importance of the document in terms of protection of the norms and principles of international law.
Asadov also recalled his visit to Italy and praised the meetings he had there. He also hailed the activity of the Italy-Azerbaijan friendship group on inter-parliamentary ties.
Provera, in turn, highlighted the importance of Azerbaijan-EU cooperation in the framework of the Eastern Partnership program. He added this cooperation would also contribute to settling the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict.
Provera underlined the role of Azerbaijan in ensuring Europe`s energy security. He also praised the level of development of democracy in the country.
Participants at the event included head of the working group on Azerbaijan-Italy inter-parliamentary ties Azar Karimli and Italian ambassador Mario Giorgio Stefano.
