MINISTER OF ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT MEETS WITH EBRD PRESIDENT
Heydar Babayev said Azerbaijan attaches great importance to the cooperation with the international financial structures.
The Minister noted the EBRD has pledged approximately $800 million for Azerbaijan to date and sponsored several projects in the fields of energy, transport and natural resources.
Mr. Babayev said the Bank contributed to sponsorship of several projects in the country: reconstruction of Yenikend Hydroelectric Power Station, renewal of air navigation system and improvement of water supply in Baku as well as projects in private sector.
According to him, the EBRD is currently sponsoring projects of reconstruction of Hajiqabul-Kurdamir and Baku-Samur highways.
The Minister said Azerbaijan and EBRD have big opportunities for further enhancement of cooperation.
He noted Azerbaijan plans to implement large projects, worth $450 million, in collaboration with the international financial structures, and called EBRD’s participation in these projects important for the country.
Mr. Jean Lemierre, for his part, said EBRD recognizes Azerbaijan as a partner and is keen to improve ties with this country.
He expressed his satisfaction with Azerbaijan’s economic development, noting EBRD is ready for every cooperation in this direction.
Mr. Lemierre said he would visit Quba region to meet with local businessmen.
Heydar Babayev and Jean Lemierre also discussed reconstruction of Azerbaijan Hydroelectric Power Station as well as redevelopment of locomotive park of the State Railway Station.
