On April 3, Minister of Justice of Azerbaijan Fikrat Mammadov met with Jakob Kellenberger, President of the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC).

Azerbaijani Minister informed the guest of reforms in legal sector of Azerbaijan and told of modernization of judicial system as well as promotion and protection of human rights in the country.

Fikrat Mammadov spoke of the recent reforms in penitentiary system, including conditions of prisoners’ detention and improvement of medical services for them.

He also said 7, 000 prisoners with tuberculosis were treated in Azerbaijan during ten-year cooperation with ICRC.

Jakob Kellenberger, for his part, said he appreciates reforms in penitentiary system of Azerbaijan.

He called achievements in fight against tuberculosis success and noted rates of death from tuberculosis decreased.

Fikrat Mammadov and Jakob Kellenberger also discussed ways of boosting bilateral cooperation.
