NATO Senior Partnership Conference starts in Baku
Baku, April 11 (AZERTAC). A Senior Partnership Conference on “The 20th Anniversary of PfP and Future of NATO Partnerships” has kicked off in the Azerbaijani capital of Baku.
The Conference is organized by the NATO International School of Azerbaijan (NISA) in cooperation with NATO and Azerbaijan`s Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Opening the Conference, Azerbaijani deputy FM Araz Azimov said it marked the 20th anniversary of the NATO Partnership for Peace Program. He said the Conference intended to stimulate comprehensive discussions on PfP achievements, further priorities in the NATO partnership agenda to better serve Euro-Atlantic security, and ways of strengthening NATO`s partnership with individual countries to tackle common challenges.
NATO Assistant Secretary General Sorin Ducaru said Azerbaijan was one of the first countries to join the Partnership for Peace Program. He described Azerbaijan as one of NATO`s long term and most active partners. Mr. Ducaru praised the Alliance`s cooperation and political dialogue with the country. He also commended Azerbaijan`s assistance to NATO/ISAF nations in bringing stability to Afghanistan.
The two-day Conference brings together NATO IS, NATO Military Authorities, member and partner countries civilian and military officials, academicians and researchers.
It will basically try to find answers to questions like: What did Partners and Allies gain though PfP? How PfP could better operate in evolving security environment and what should be done for that? Which issues should be furthered in the NATO partnership agenda to better serve Euro-Atlantic security? How can partnership with individual countries be strengthened to tackle common challenges? How will NATO advance partnerships and sustain interoperability, beyond-2014?
