PM Rasizade: Azerbaijani-Bulgarian relations have deep historical roots
Baku, February 20 (AZERTAC). “Relations between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria have deep historical roots,” said Azerbaijan`s Prime Minister Artur Rasizade in a meeting with Bulgarian counterpart Plamen Oresharski.
The Azerbaijani Premier noted the two countries` presidents had good relations.
Touching upon development of the economic ties, Rasizade said there was considerable unused potential between Azerbaijan and Bulgaria.
The Prime Minister noted Azerbaijan was implementing large-scale projects of regional and global importance. He added Azerbaijan also attached great importance to development of non-oil sector.
Rasizade said the two countries could find point of contacts in industrial, tourism and humanitarian fields.
The PM said Azerbaijan was forced to pay special attention to increasing defense abilities because as a result of the Armenian aggression about 20% of Azerbaijani territories were occupied and more than 1 million people became refugees and IDPs.
Rasizade noted Armenia carried out a policy of ethnic cleansing against Azerbaijani people, and committed the Khojaly genocide massacring hundreds of defenseless people, including women, children and the elderly.
He expressed confidence that Plamen Oresharski`s visit to Azerbaijan would give impetus to overall development of the bilateral bonds.
The Bulgarian PM hailed Azerbaijan`s economic achievements in recent years.
Oresharski said Bulgaria attached special importance to cooperation with Azerbaijan in the field of energy, adding there are ample opportunities for SOCAR`s making investment in Bulgaria.
The Bulgarian Premier also pointed to cooperation opportunities in the fields of education, culture, tourism, agriculture and defense industry.
They also exchanged views over the opening of a direct flight between Baku and Sofia, as well as the organization of a Bulgaria-Azerbaijan business forum.
