PRESIDENT OF SUPREME JUDICIAL COURT OF AUSTRIA VISITS AZERBAIJAN

In the frame of the said visit, on 10 March members of the Supreme Court of the Azerbaijan Republic have met with Mr. Johan Reschut.
Chairman of the Supreme Court of the Azerbaijan Republic Ramiz Rzayev informed on the structure of the republican judicial system, stating that Azerbaijan has established its Constitutional Court in 1996 and since 1998 abolished the capital punishment. Austria was one of the first states to recognize independence of Azerbaijan, Mr. Rzayev underlined. The established links between the ministries of justice and internal affairs, as well as of the Prosecutor General Offices and Constitutional Courts of both countries will promote further development of cooperation between two states, he added. He also gave detailed information on the Armenia-Azerbaijan, Nagorno Karabakh conflict.
President of Supreme Judicial Court /Oberster Gerichtshof/ of Austria spoke of the judicial system in his country, informed on the existing problems and ongoing reforms, stressed the necessity of data and experience exchange.
As a result of negotiations, the sides have sealed a Memo on cooperation between supreme courts of the countries.
