The news on passing of President Heydar Aliyev with whom I had long-standing ties of friendship has deeply grieved me. This sorrowful day, on behalf of the people of France and on my own behalf I expresse to You my deepest condolences.
That extra-ordinary person brought Azerbaijan to prosperity. During our meetings, particularly, while discussing the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict, I would highly appreciate his courage, wisdom and decisiveness in relation to peaceful resolution of the conflict.
I express my best wishes that his efforts will be continued with the support of the Minsk Group co- chairs and successfully realized. You know that You may always count on France’s support. You will face great challenges while continuing Your father’s political course. I especially mean the reforms Heydar Aliyev carried out with fortitude. I make no doubt that You will take every effort to continue his cause and lead Azerbaijan along the path of democracy and building legal state.
I once again express my sympathy, and assurances of my highest consideration.
