Many years ago, I was notified that President Heydar Aliyev would be coming into Cleveland for some medical attention. At that time, I knew nothing about the President, His country. This made me begin studying about Azerbaijan, the country and its people.

Nor did I know at that time, that a special magic would occur between myself, the Aliyev Family and the Presidential Staff. In a short period of time, we all became good friends. We all became personal friends. We enjoyed the good times, and we supported each other during the sad times.

Heydar, did not speak much English. But through blue eyes I could feel what he was saying. On those days, He was not feeling good. I felt successful, by receiving his handshake and his warm smile. He could never pronounce my full last name, and would just say hi Houli. Those words, his smiles, and his handshakes will never leave my memory forever.

Heydar Aliyev was a cornerstone of history, I am very proud to say that I knew him and became such good friends with all his staff. I will carry and comfort these memories in my heart for the years to come. As send my deepest sympathy at the passing of Heydar, I also send my heartfelt thanks and deepest appreciation for the friendship developed, the education given and the personal allowances you allowed me. Being close to all of you was a peace of wonderful magic, a once in a lifetime magic. Trying to share this with my grandchildren will be difficult but I will do it.

My god bless all of you and yours. Provide you each with personal strength to endure and allow time help you each to remember the good times shared.
