Qatar intends to expand inter-parliamentary relations with Azerbaijan

On June 25, Speaker of the Milli Majlis Sahiba Gafarova met with Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim, Speaker of the Shura Council of the State of Qatar, who is visiting Azerbaijan to participate in the 20th Session of the Conference of the Parliamentary Union of the OIC Member States (PUIC).
During the meeting, the sides praised the development of relations between Azerbaijan and Qatar across various sectors, emphasizing the critical role of mutual high-level visits and meetings in further expanding these ties.
The conversation also highlighted robust cooperation between the two nations within regional and international organizations, noting that Azerbaijan and Qatar actively support each other within the frameworks of the United Nations, the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM), and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).
Both officials hailed the high level of interaction between their respective parliaments. They underscored that the Parliament of Qatar is deeply engaged in the activities of the Non-Aligned Movement Parliamentary Network, established on the initiative of President Ilham Aliyev.
Speaker Sahiba Gafarova reaffirmed that Azerbaijan has consistently respected the territorial integrity of all nations, noting that Baku firmly supports the regional peace agenda aimed at maintaining long-term stability in the South Caucasus.
The Speaker of the Shura Council of Qatar expressed gratitude for the hospitality received and highlighted the strategic significance of the 20th PUIC Conference. He noted that the forum serves as a vital platform for discussing regional and international issues and advancing bilateral relations among member states. Congratulating Azerbaijan on assuming the chairmanship of the organization, he expressed confidence that the PUIC's activities would expand significantly under Azerbaijani leadership.
Hassan bin Abdullah Al-Ghanim also pointed out that the Joint Intergovernmental Commission on Economic, Trade, and Technical Cooperation between the two countries continues to operate successfully.
Furthermore, he commended the active participation of Milli Majlis delegations in regional and international forums, reaffirming Qatar’s clear intention to expand its inter-parliamentary relations with Azerbaijan.
During the conversation, the Qatari Speaker highly praised the ongoing reconstruction and restoration projects in the liberated territories of Azerbaijan.
