SESSION OF RUSSIAN-AZERBAIJANI INTERGOVERNMENTAL COMMISSION ON ECONOMIC COOPERATION PASSES IN BAKU
Agenda of the session included 10 questions connected to various aspects of cooperation in the field of fuel-energy complexes, transport, information technologies, communications, in the humanitarian sphere, with the stance and prospects of development of trade-economic links, with the plan of major actions on conducting the Year of Russia in Azerbaijan and regulation of property questions.
Opening the session was the chairman from the Azerbaijan side of the Commission, first vice-premier of Azerbaijan Republic Abbas Abbasov, who noted that in the passed period was done huge work to deepen and widen bilateral trade-economic co-op. At his words, further deepening of relations was promoted by the initiative of the heads of two states on conducting actions in Russia in the frame of the Year of Azerbaijan.
Speaking on rising role of the Azerbaijani-Russian economic ties, Mr. Abbasov noted that trade turnover between 2 countries in 2005 exceeded 1 billion dollars. Two presidents for implementation marked just this figure in short time in the frame of Program for long-term economic cooperation up to 2010. And successfully developed the cooperation in the fuel-energy field. Mutual energy supplies have notably improved. The expected delivery of natural gas in 2006 will make up 4,5 billion cubic meters. Azerbaijan also plans to provide transit of Azerbaijani gas through the territory of Russia in 2006 in volume of not less than 3 million tons.
Great role in expansion of the economic ties will play the opening of new bridge over Samur River on the border of two countries.
Speaking at the action, co-chairman of Commission from the Russian side, minister of industry and energy Victor Khristenko highly praised development in Azerbaijan’s economy, noting the necessity of establishing of wide information exchange on tenders, investment projects in Azerbaijan, in which could participate and representatives of the Russian business circles.
On conclusions of session, two documents were adopted - the protocols of the 10th session of the Azerbaijani-Russian intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, which was signed by vice-premier of Azerbaijan Abbas Abbasov and minister of industry and energy of Russia Victor Khristenko, and the Agreement on prospects of co-op and expansion of cultural ties, signed by minister of culture and tourism of Azerbaijan Abulfaz Garayev and head of the Federal Agency on culture and cinematography of RF Mikhail Shvydko.
