Terrorist act prevented; 11 suicide bomber belts found in Kabul
Baku, 28 March (AZERTAC). More than ten Afghan soldiers were detained, in suspicion of planning a terrorist act in the Ministry of Defense building in Kabul. Arrests were carried out after suicide bomber belts were found in the building.
The plan to organize terrorist acts in the Ministry of Defense as well as several buses, used by the government officials, was prevented on Monday, March 26, The New York Times reports.
Despite the fact that the Ministry withheld any comments, the information about the prevention of the terrorist acts was confirmed by several Afghan officials and Armed Forces representatives.
Suicide bomber belts were found on the premises of the Ministry, where guards reside, near the parking lot.
“It is dangerous to be in the Ministry right now. Conspirators have had contacts in the Ministry, there is no other way they could have gained access to this heavily guarded facility”, - Afghan Armed Forces representative admits.
On Tuesday, March 27, access to the Ministry of Defense in Kabul was practically restricted. Security measures were also tightened in the diplomatic district of the capital.
BBC, on the other hand, reports about 18 people arrested and 11 suicide bomber belts found.
