Ukraine Puts Shelf Gas Field into Operation
Baku, September 6 (AZERTAC). Ukraine`s state-run company Chornomornaftogaz on Wednesday started commercial operation of the Odessa natural gas deposit on the Black Sea shelf.
President Viktor Yanukovych pushed the button launching the gas flow at one of the three boreholes.
The Odessa deposit has estimated reserves of 22 billion cubic meters. The gas produced there will be fed into Crimea`s gas supply system.
Yanukovych said that by launching the Odessa operation Ukraine has taken an important step toward acquiring “energy independence.”
By the end of the year Chornomornaftogaz is planning to raise production to 53 billion cubic meters.
By 2015, production should hit 1 billion cubic meters a year.
State production enterprise “Chornomornaftogaz” was established in 1979 in order to develop Black Sea and the Sea of Azov hydrocarbon resources.
“Chornomornaftogaz” owns rather powerful production and servicing facilities and provided some its units are strengthened will be capable to intensify oil and gas resources development offshore Black Sea and the Sea of Azov and onshore within Crimean peninsular.
“Chornomornaftogaz” balance sheet counts a total of 5 gas and oilfields.
“Chornomornaftogaz” carries out operations as unified production and economic system offshore Black Sea and the Sea of Azov, fulfils explorations and production drilling, constructs offshore fixed platforms, develops and operates gas and oil fields, transports the produced gas to consumers and injects into the underground gas storage.
