UNITAR representative: Water infrastructure should be accessible to everyone
Baku, May 20, AZERTAC
“Currently, 1.3 billion people worldwide live with disabilities. At the same time, the number of people aged over 65 has reached 1 billion, and forecasts suggest this figure will rise to 2 billion by 2050. This represents a major demographic shift that requires adaptation not only in cities but across society as a whole,” said Luis Gallegos Chiriboga, Chair of the Board of Trustees of UNITAR during the event themed “Water-Smart Cities Building Urban Resilience Through Capacity Development” held as part of the 13th Session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13).
“The processes of aging and declining birth rates will have significant impacts on the global economy, labor markets, and social structures. t is therefore important to develop strategic approaches that take into account future needs. In this regard, it is fundamental that water infrastructure and services are accessible to people with special needs,” Luis Gallegos Chiriboga underscored.
