US CONGRESS NOT TO DISCUSS “ARMENIAN GENOCIDE”
Baku, May 27 (AZERTAC). US President Barack Obama and Secretary of State Hillary Clinton announced the Congress would not discuss a resolution on “Armenian genocide”.
The Obama Administration announced it will try to block discussion of the resolution of the so-called Armenian genocide in the Congress.
The resolution of “Armenian genocide” adopted by House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs will not be put to a vote. The Obama Administration reached an agreement with the Congress in this regard.
A White House spokesman said despite the resolution was approved by the House of Representatives Committee, the US Congress will not take any decision on this subject.
During her visit to Guatemala, US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton reiterated a support to Turkey in this issue.
“The Obama administration strongly opposes the resolution that was passed by only one vote by the House committee and will work very hard to make sure it does not go to the House floor,” Clinton told reporters in Guatemala.
On March 4, the resolution was approved by 23 votes to 22 by House of Representatives Committee on Foreign Affairs, but the US president said the administration would “work very hard” to prevent this. It caused a tension between the United States and Turkey. Turkey voiced strong protests after the vote and recalled its ambassador from Washington.
