U.S. PRESIDENT SENDS LETTER TO AZERBAIJAN`s LEADER
Baku, June 7 (AZERTAC). Azerbaijan`s President Ilham Aliyev received a letter from President of the United States Barack Obama. The letter was handed over to the Azerbaijani leader through US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates.
The U.S. President hailed US-Azerbaijan partnership in the letter.
The U.S President said his country recognizes Azerbaijan`s important contributions to regional and international security.
Barack Obama expressed hope that “we will be able to broaden and deepen our relationship in the months ahead.”
President Obama praised Azerbaijan for sending its military personnel to serve in Afghanistan.
The letter says “Azerbaijan`s leadership in the development for a Southern Corridor for energy has also increased regional prosperity and enhanced global energy security”.
Obama praised Azerbaijan`s commitment to the OSCE Minsk process, and stressed that significant dialogue with Armenian President Serge Sarkisian makes important contributions to regional security.
The President wrote peaceful resolution to the Nagorno-Karabakh conflict is essential for the long-term stability of the South Caucasus region, and support for this outcome will remain a priority for the United States.
The letter says there are some issues in U.S.-Azerbaijan relationship, but expressed confidence that the sides can address them.
The letter says during the current visit of Secretary of Defense Gates and future high-ranking visits, both countries will explore opportunities to forge ahead bilateral dialogue for the regional security, democracy and prosperity and develop “our cooperation” even more.
