WUF13 Panel Session: “Public Spaces from Early Childhood”
Baku, May 21, AZERTAC
A panel session titled “Public Spaces from Early Childhood” was held as part of the 13th Session of the UN World Urban Forum (WUF13).
The discussions emphasized the importance of creating inclusive public spaces against the backdrop of rapid urbanization and the growing proportion of children in cities.
Speakers said that by 2030, 60 percent of the urban population is expected to be under 18 years old, making it essential to increase children’s participation in urban planning processes.
Speakers highlighted that public spaces play a key role in the social and emotional development of young children, yet children living in low-income and informal settlements often have limited access to such spaces.
The participants stressed the importance of participatory approaches in creating safer and more inclusive public spaces for children.
The session continued in a question-and-answer format.
